Tanzanite
Tanzanite is the transparent blue variety of Zoisite, first found in the Meralanie Hills in the Lelatema district of Tanzania, hence its name.
Crystals are found in various colours: blue, green, yellow, pink, brown and a khaki colour.
Extreme care must be taken when cleaning Tanzanite, as the stones have been known to fracture badly when jewellery set with them is cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner.
