Apatite
Apatite is a common mineral with a particularly wide range of colours, including colourless (white), pink, yellow, green, blue and violet. In non-gem quality, very large crystals occur which can weigh up to several hundredweight. Gem quality crystals, however, are quite scarce and fairly small. The name apatite is derived from the Greek word meaning ‘to deceive’, in allusion to its similarity to other more valuable minerals, such as olivine, peridot and beryl.
Amongst other properties, apatite is said to enhance one’s co-ordination and help to strengthen the muscles. Further, it has been credited with suppressing hunger and easing hypertension!
Apatite is commonly found in Burma (Myanmar), Brazil, India, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, Sri Lanka, East and South Africa, Spain, Russia, Canada, and the United States. Apatite found in Myanmar is quite light and ranges from colorless to light blue. Spanish apatite has a yellowish-green colour, and for this reason is often called "asparagus stone".
