Carnelian
This striking bright orange or reddish gemstone is most often translucent with a cloudy distribution of colour. A member of the Chalcedony (Quartz) family, carnelian is coloured by iron oxide, with the most favourable pieces possessing a deep red to red-orange hue. Sometimes known as Sard and "pigeon's blood agate" Chalcedony is also referred to by trade names such as, red chalcedony and red agate.
