Quartz occurs in both a crystalline and polycrystalline variety. Crystalline quartz consists of relatively large crystals that are usually visible to the unaided eye, while polycrystalline quartz is fine-grained and consists of masses of minute crystals.
Smoky Quartz
Smoky quartz ranges in colour from yellow to deep brown and black, which is caused by irradiation – natural and artificial. It occurs naturally worldwide in the same localities and environments as Rock Crystal. In addition, Japan and Hinojosa in the province of Cordoba, Spain, have produced smoky quartz.
