Chrysoprase
The most prized of the chalcedonies, Chrysoprase varies in colour from apple green to a greenish-yellow, and owes its extraordinary colour to its high nickel content. It is usually cut en cabochon and is a popular choice for use in intaglios and cameos, with examples appearing in Greek, Roman and Egyptian jewellery. Chrysoprase was incredibly popular in the Victorian era, when the stones were often cut as low cabochons with a narrow rim of facets around the edge.
