Iolite is a transparent, violet-blue to light blue coloured gemstone
- The gemstone has an important place in history as the legendary Viking adventurers used thin pieces of iolite as the world's first polarizing filter. Looking through an iolite lens, they could determine the exact position of the sun, and navigate safely to the new world and back.
- The valuable property that made this possible for the Vikings is its extreme pleochroism, meaning it takes on different colours when viewed from different angles.
- Crystal healers use Iolite to help treat addictions. It is believed to assist in detoxifying the body.
- Iolite is also thought to enhance curiosity and help in building relationship.
