Amazonite was believed to have been discovered at the Amazon River Basin in Brazil. Legends told of tribes of warrior women using Amazonite to heal wounds and gifting green stones to visitors. However, although Amazonite has been found in other parts of the Amazon, it’s unclear whether the stone was actually discovered in the river basin itself. In actual fact, the stone mentioned in the Amazonian legends is thought to have been Jade. Amazonite is often confused with Jade or Turquoise and is sometimes referred to as ‘Colorado Jade’ because of its mistaken identity.

Amazonite can be found in the Amazon but the stone’s main source is in India. Other locations include the USA, Canada, Madagascar and Tanzania.

Although Amazonite isn’t officially associated with the birthstone chart it is ruled by Uranus and linked to Virgo. It is also said to be beneficial for people with Scorpio, Aries and Leo birth signs for balance and protection.
