The Making of Floe

The Making of Floe
Inspired by the smooth fluidity and spiral formation of ribbons, the Floe collection consists of wearable sculptures crafted in 18ct Gold Vermeil, with accents of freshwater Pearls. Let’s take a look into the collection and see where it all started…

Where did the concept of Floe come from?

Each piece of AC jewellery is designed in our London studio by our amazing female-led design team. We caught up with Carolyn, from our product development team, to understand more about where the ideas for the Floe collection first came from.

How did you first come up with the concept of Floe?

Carolyn: “Being inspired by the beauty and fluidity of the ballarinas’ movements, was how we first thought up the idea of Floe. The effortlessness despite the hard work involved in the movements, was a concept we wanted to pull through into the jewellery: weightless and fluid vs intricate designs. For example, the Floe Necklace with a hovering pearl was one of the trickiest pieces to make despite looking as though the pearl was simply placed on top of the ribbon.”

What does Floe mean for AC?

Carolyn: “The Floe collection perfectly encapsulates the essence of AC: flawless, timeless design. While it includes more sculptural, large-scale designs than past collections; it is the perfect equilibrium between having on-trend pieces that can also be layered with existing jewellery. Not simply a throw away piece because of its elegance.”

How do you style Floe?

Carolyn: “Bigger is always better for me and a style that I have loved to do is to pair the two rings from the collection with one another. I start with the Floe Pearl ring and then take the Floe Gold ring and pop it upside down on the same finger which creates this beautiful, intricate statement pieces that I am completely obsessed with!”

In the details

Knots

The inspiration of ribbons and movement in the Floe collection can be seen most clearly in the beautifully considered knots and twists in the Floe Drop Hoops where the Gold is delicately intertwined and overlapped.

Pearls

Best known for their whimsical shapes and wide variety of sizes and colours, the character of a freshwater Pearl is found in its distinctive surface texture with each one being unique.

Ridges

Each piece of the chunkier Floe has a double link design. This make the pieces more of a statement, as well as sitting alongside our other ridged designs and allowing you to style it with other AC pieces.

Styling Guide

Chunky jewellery has made a significant comeback, becoming a statement trend that can instantly elevate any outfit. From oversized hoops to bold chain necklaces, stacking rings, and beaded bracelets, these pieces offer versatility, personality, and flair. But how do you style chunky jewellery without feeling overwhelmed?

While these pieces can stand out on their own, layering them in with other pieces from your jewellery box creates a stylish, chic vibe.

  • Layered necklaces: Combine a thick chain necklace with delicate, finer chains to create dimension and variety. If your chunky piece is short, layer it with longer chains or pendants to create a cascading effect.
  • Stacking rings: Mix bold rings with dainty bands for a sophisticated look. The combination of sizes, textures, and stones keeps it interesting.
  • Bracelet stacks: Pair chunky bangles or cuffs with sleeker pieces, like a simple chain bracelet or a woven bracelet, to add balance without losing the boldness.

Ultimately, chunky jewellery is about making a statement, and the best way to pull off any bold piece is to wear it with confidence. Whether you're opting for a chunky necklace, oversized earrings, statement bangles or stacking rings; owning your look will make the jewellery stand out even more.
